Warping

The warp is usually exposed as the fringe. Warps at the side of a rug are finished in special ways to create an edge.

Rugs are made of essentially three types of threads; the warp, weft and pile. The warp is wrapped on the loom and is the foundation thread of a rug.

The weft is inserted sensuously across the width of the loom, perpendicular or at right angles to the warp, and after each row of knots to hold them in place. It binds all the threads into a cohesive structure.
